Breitling is proud to support the Surfrider Foundation, a non-governmental organization devoted to fighting for coastal preservation and clean oceans. Since 1984 the foundation, created by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, has grown to a community of over one million supporters and members. Breitling's commitment to protecting our seas began in 1957 when Willy Breitling introduced the first SuperOcean, helping to introduce the beauty and fragility of the undersea world to a new generation of diving enthusiasts and establishing one of Breitling’s three brand universes – Sea. Today, Breitling focuses on saving our oceans by being a strong supporter of the surf community and working with it to identify the most pressing conservancy needs. Together with Surfrider, Breitling continues the global fight for our natural environment—not only for today but for future generations.
THE SURFRIDER FOUNDATION
Surfrider was established in 1984 by a small group of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, and has since grown to include over one million supporters, activists, and members, with more than 170 volunteer-led chapters and student clubs in the U.S. Surfrider's mission revolves around key objectives: combating plastic pollution, preserving delicate coastal ecosystems, advocating for universal beach access, and safeguarding the well-being of our oceans. They’re also dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusivity within its organization, allowing all individuals who appreciate and protect the oceans, waves, and beaches to participate. Since 2006, it has recorded winning over 800 campaigns aiming for governmental change, which have led to hundreds of significant coastal protection victories.
OUR PARTNERSHIP
Breitling is working to amplify ocean conservancy through its partnership with Surfrider. By offering ongoing support, Breitling empowers Surfrider in its crucial endeavors to diminish the detrimental impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems, safeguard clean water resources, advocate for government-backed initiatives in ocean protection, and promote universal beach accessibility. The Surfrider Foundation has already accomplished remarkable milestones, having spearheaded 800 impactful campaigns since 2006. These achievements cover a broad spectrum, ranging from high-profile legislative victories and long-term advocacy to local beach cleanups, water quality testing, and engaging community outreach efforts.
